Manual Update of Theme or Plugin
Sometimes it is easiest to manually update a theme or plugin. These directions apply to any theme or plugin, but specifically apply to any Weaver Xtreme theme or plugin.
- Download the theme or plugin you want to update to your computer. In general, you can download a theme or plugin from WordPress.org to you computer. If you are downloading the Weaver Xtreme Plus plugin, you can download it as described here. If you have a Mac, you should right-click any download link or macOS will "helpfully" unpack the .zip file for you.
- Use Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades Perhaps the easiest way to update a theme or plugin is to use the Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin. If you have this plugin installed, you can simply use the standard Upload link from the WordPress Themes or Plugins admin menus: Add New > Upload Theme/Plugin. This plugin will bypass the normal WordPress behavior that blocks uploading a new theme or plugin over and existing one. Once you've uploaded the theme/plugin you saved on your computer in step one, you are ready to go.
- Manual Installation
As mentioned in item 2, the WordPress Upload Theme/Plugin admin menu will not allow you to upload and install a previously existing theme or plugin. An alternative to Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades is follow a couple of steps to manually install your theme or plugin. You deactivate your existing theme or plugin, then use the Upload Theme/Plugin menu to upload the new version, then reactivate the theme or plugin.
- If you have a theme, you will first have to temporarily switch to a new theme such as Twenty Seventeen. You will not lose any content, and you will not lose any Weaver Xtreme theme settings. After you upload the replacement Weaver Xtreme, simply re-activate it.
- If you are updating any Weaver plugin, simply deactivate and delete the old version (you won't lose any settings), then upload and reactivate the newly uploaded version.
